The topic is the central theme of the story. It's the central idea or underlying meaning of the text. It's frequently the storyteller's personal viewpoint on the subject. There can be both main and minor themes in a story.

Major Theme : a concept that runs through the entire story and is connected with it.

Minor Theme : a concept that appears infrequently and does not necessarily repeat itself.

EXERCISE

Task 3: web toon & motion comic

For our third and final task, we were asked to create a webtoon comic with a horror theme by considering the 3-ACTS Structure.

ACT 1 : SETUP

In a village at the outskirts,  a unique baby was born. It had huge eyes, developed teeth and pale skin. As the child grows up, the mother realized that this child wasn't normal and had uncontrollable appetite and eats any living things. So the mother locked her child up in the basement and fed it livestock every night secretly such as sheep, pigs, cats or dogs.

 ACT 2: CONFLICT

After years of secretly feeding her child, a plague suddenly broke out in the village that all the livestock and many villagers died. Everyone that survived left the village. Being very hungry, the child started rampaging and broke free from the basement. It started scouting for anything edible whether it is corpses that died from the plague.

ACT 3 : RESOLUTION

Eventually, there was nothing much at the village and the child started consuming his mother. Without wanting to let go of her child, the mother let the child consume her legs, then her hands to the crying child. The mother who had her torso left hugged her child for the last time and gave him the rest of her body.

TASK 3 : WEBTOON

While working in the task, firstly I decided what type of art style I was going to go. After researching I was attracted by this children story book which used a unique type of art. I ended up using it as it suits the story and theme of the task.

REFERENCE

Firstly, I compile all my drawing into Photoshop and created a comic webtoon

FINAL OUTCOME

FINAL PROJECT : MOTION COMIC

Next I exported the psd file into Adobe After Effects to add movement to the comic. This is where each layers are edited to create movement of joints to make it more realistic.

After all the effects are done, I then Import the composition in Adobe Premiere Pro. Sound VFX, Background Music was added to gave the video more impact and dramatic feeling. Transition was also added to make the video run more smoothly and easier for audience to view.
