LECTURES
wEEK 1 : 27.08.2021
We had an ice-breaking session with our lecturers on the first day. Ms Noranis and Ms Jennifer were introduced to us for this class. Ms. Anis then proceeded to give us an overview of what we may expect from this module. Ms Noranis also talked about her cats which awed everyone in class.
Week 2 : 03.09.2021
For this week, we were introduced about character designs, there are few principles of character designs which makes the character unique. These principles are :
- SHAPES
Fig 1.1 Aladdin's Character Shapes
Shapes defines the characters' silhouette which gives the iconic look which can be used to identify one character from the other
- COLOR
Fig 1.2 Darwin from Cartoon Network
Fig 1.3 Gumball from Cartoon Network
Colors plays important roles in character designs as each color can represent the heroes or villains as colors can cause certain type of emotions in people
- EMPHASIS AND CONTRAST
Fig 1.4 Disney's Hades
Exaggerating one visual feature in a character helps the character stand out and unforgettable.
- HARMONY
Colors, shapes, themes, emphasis, and contracts all work together to create a harmony character.
- EXPRESSION AND POSES
Last but not least, it is your characters' behaviour, peculiarities, and personalities that graphically depict how they capture the hearts of your viewers. We are not required to inform them. They can be interpreted by the audience.
The main focus of this week's topic is composition. These are the different types of composition :
Fig 1.7 Types of Shots/Compositions from Notes
- ESTABLISHING
- take a wide angle shot that captures everything.
- BIRD'S EYEVIEW
- A dynamic shoot from the perspective of a bird.
- FRAMING
- process of highlighting and emphasising a scene.
- MEDIUM SHOT
- the audience gets a sense of the character's size.
- CLOSE-UP
- go as close to the topic as possible.
- WORM'S EYEVIEW
- different dynamic shoot that puts audiences on the ground.
Week 4 : 17.09.2021
This week's topic is similar to week 3. However, we are focusing more onto the perspective of the composition
"PERSPECTIVE "DEFINITION
- To create depth
- An Illusion
- A Representation of Objects
- From a 2D surface to create a 3D Optical illusion
Types of Perspectives :
1-POINT PERSPECTIVE (FRONTAL VIEW)
In this type of perspective, we have a vanishing point, which is always on the horizon line. This vanishing point is where all the lines converge to (that’s why it is called a 1-point perspective). When we draw an interior, we see three walls: one that is parallel to the picture plane (frontal wall) and two side walls.
2-POINT PERSPECTIVE (OBLIQUE VIEW)
In this view, the horizon contains two vanishing points, and the picture reveals two walls of a space. You can move these points on the horizon line, but it is important that the distance between them should remain the same fixed value (usually this distance equals to the diagonal of the picture plane).
3-POINT PERSPECTIVE
Three-point perspectives consist of 2 vanishing points on opposite sides of a horizon but with the addition of another vanishing point high above or below the horizon

EXERCISE
Task 1: Part A Vormator Challenge
On the first week, Ms. Anis and Ms. Jennifer tasked us to create our very own character with these shapes from the vormator challenge for next week.
Fig 2.1 Final Sketch of Vormator Challenge
Lore: Orohebi was a giant dragon-like serpent that ruled and protected Yaoro island and its people, During the war between gods and demigods, Orohebi fought Beelzebulb and lost, due to the lost Orohebi couldn't admit the defeat and became evil.
Fig 2.2 Adobe Color
Next, I went to adobe color and played around a few color that I wanted to paint Orohebi with. I chose Split Complementary and these are the color that I ended up choosing.
Fig 2.4 Initial design
This was the initial design I made up while trying out Adobe Illustrator. I even went and tried the gradient effect to the card but I realized that it didn't match the color scheme of my character.
Instead of a white background I when and google some inspiration on snake habitats and since I wanted to make my own Pokémon card, it reminded me of the Gameboy Pokémon game which is in 8-bit style that I loved to played while I was a kid. So I went and experiment on pixelated art and created a background for Orohebi.

After adding all the elements of the card, this is the final result of my front of the tarot card
Fig 2.7 Final front
As for the back of the card, I googled some vector elements of snakes that interest me and I traced it at Adobe Illustrator
